need help guys asap

Of course, how do you think turbo cars worked before fuel injection was invented?

turbos were invented after fuel injection,im a mechanic
it impossible to run a turbo with carbs because when a
turbo comes into boost the injection timing advances
and with carbs there is no where for boost pipes to fit,
it is possible to fit a blow through carb but as far as i
know they are only really used in american muscle and cost a bomb

You're talking out of your arse.

Turbo's were invented around 1905.

There have been a ton of turbo'd carb'd cars. R5 GT Turbo, MG Maestro/Montego Turbo to name a few recentish ones.

will power steering be ok when a do the engine swap?

fuel pipe ? water pump pipe? all pipes wee tad worried dont want to start putting wrong pipes n etc. and same goes for plugs lol

right well i cant see how it would work because all the carbs ive seen have just sucked air in and surely if the turbo puts more air in the carbs wont know to up the fuel going in?

getting off topic but ...
yes you can have carb turbos .. then it looks like this :
carbs to turbo to mainfold to head
and they work on the suck through principle.
There is also a thing called a "pressure box" where the whole carb is fitted inside a sealed pressure unit.
There are some Volvo T5s out there using twin weber/dellortos blow throughs

So, BTT :)

Suck through setups are great, I think I'll get one and have a dump valve and spark plug poking out the bonnet :D

There is another type of setup, where the carb is sealed, which is how R5GTTs and the MG's I mentioned did it.

The earlier 5 turbos (Gordini) used a suck through though.

ah i see, thanks i couldnt get my head round it. Sorry bout the off topic

engine fitted today guys .. slight problem the manifold is ok but the down pipe from the manifold doesnt fit where could i find 1? do you knw any sites that sell them?

right before we get bitchy i didnt say it wasnt
possible just highly unlikely. i had an r5 and
seem to remember it was a single point inj as were
the montego that my dad had,the 80s were the era
when turbos became popular because of injection,
remeber the audi quattro lancia delta 205 t16
all turbo injections,so stop talkin out yer own ass

i went and plugged the ecu in 2day and there was 3 other wires attached to the loom ... could a not use the ecotec loom and ecu or does it have to be the cavvy loom and ecu .. how do i connect the power steering up ? :( this doesnt look good atm

Firstly the wireing, your 2.0 8v loom probly has 3 plugs while your car loom has one, just wire them colour for colour an tape up any that are left, they wont be needed..

Secondly the p/s pump, your original one will be a multi groove belt type pump, if you have this later type set up on the 8v it will fit ,if you have the early single v type belt set up on the engine you will need the same type pump and maybe the pipes if they are different..

My mates R5 GT Turbo defo runs a carb..

hey guys, well times ome for more problems, took my gsi down to a local garage guy i know for long time, dropped it of sunday morning went down today to be told that he cant do it as it will take too long, and will cost about £400 to do rest of electrics, also thing is i hooked up ecu etc and battery on and im getting power inside car like battery light led panel and c/l etc... so thats fine, the guy had said that he would need to chop plugs and all that crap, but ive been told from a few people it will wire up no bother... but having doubts now thanks

the wiring loom plugs are totally diff from the ones in my engine bay i.e it used to have a 2litre 16valve ecotec loom and ecu now i have a 2litre 8valve cavvy engine and loom and ecu. could i used calibra 2litre 8valve plugs and wire them onto the cavvy loom? or use 2litre 8valve plugs?
