my old man thought hed b uy me the halfords pro tool kit today....so i went into halfords with him

and it was up to £150. now i said sack it. they offer a free jack or tool chest - but they are cheap and nasty

as for the tools. i thought halfords pro stuff was supposed to be the ****. i wasnt that impressed at all

fair enough they have some cool ratchet spanners and female bits but all in all......my draper kit is of the same quality.

as for the rest of their tools.......they didnt even have torque wrenchs and theyre "laser" tools section was tiny

i have a local car parts place that is awesome compared to halfords - loads of tools and huge "laser" section. i mention laser stuff not cause of quality but they do tools for all the REALLY awkward stuff.

really whats so special about the pro kit?

i have a set got it at christmas for £100 and it is really a good tool set to have and all parts are guarented

Lifetime warrenty on them, aslong as it's not used as business use i belive. Most is ok but i'v snapped a few extrension bars lmao

lifetime warranty on ratchets too? the bits looks rather cheap and im guessing theyll snap a lot

im slowly getting my 1/2" drive high impact set togethor

just wasnt impressed with what halfords had like.

TBH most of the tools that come back are the torx drives and stuff like that not many of the sockets come back the odd breaker bar but we just swap them over cause of the lifetime garantee thingy. They are not bad tools but not the best !!!!

i loved the look of the standard halfords kit

and i got scared when i asked if they sold spigot rings for alloys since they stock a lot and got asked what they were

sorry but to me halfords stuff is big no no, ok im a mechanic but the majority of my stuff is snap-on, gotta have the best

a 10mm spanner is a 10mm spanner and a lifetime guarantee is just that, lifetime. the reason most grease monkeys like strap-on tools is because it is drummed into them, that they are the best but the real reson they use em is because it's all on the drip! it's like buying trainers from the catalogue, same trainers, but alot more expsenive to cover the payment plan. and it's like "next" clothes same as asda **** but cleverly marketed to create a sense of social belonging, no one wants to look like a stinker, even a grease monkey. and snap-on is easy for them to spell too, just like car. the tools i'm using for the cesaro xe conversion is all halfords stuff, but your telling me if the spanner or socket had strap-on, eurotool or bluepoint (snap on for gypo's) it would do a better job? i think not, just look for good quality tools suitable for the job in hand. typical exmaple is my brother in law, everything he has is snap-on, even the dildo he uses on the misses is, he bought the xp700 air wrench, 700lbft of torque, big, heavy, noisey £400 thing. i want to go one better so bought an ingersol-rand 2135 qti, 1000lb ft of torque, small compact, light and very very very quiet, and a third of the price, and is probably the best gun available, but alas its not snap on, so i don't have bragging rights.

oh and snap on arent't open till 8 weeknights and on sundays too, when i'm doing my fiddles.

halfords pro kit is good for the money ... i especially like the way it comes int he case. nice and neat. stays in my boot most of the time. for those just in case moments

for the money its brilliant. ratchets. my god i have give them some stick and not given up on me yet. lik someone said above. nice easy swap if you go into store. never had a problem doing that with the staff.

and yes, everyone knows they aint the brightest bunch as a general in halfords lol

I have friends that are building up their cars, and they have Halfords pro sets, and swear by them. Ok,so they mite not be as good as Snap On,but where are there any Snap On shops to go swap your broken bits at? Halfords are everywhere,we have atleast 2 in Milton Keynes, and its just a quick ride to one to get the broken bit swapped. We would all love to be able to afford top of the range tools, but average car owners cant afford to spend £30+ on one spanner,or one socket.
I think they are good value for money.

i got a draper strong arm from a trade place for £9 and the bloody thing is broken ... would have been easy to spend the extra £3 in halfords for there one and take it back ... straight swap there and then :(

I think alot of the time you have to strike a balance between name and product. Like you said Namkeaps, for an overall product, aftercare etc,i think Halfords is pretty good, especially for the price.

Had my pro kit for a while now and not had any problems tbh so far so good

However the garage I go and do work at is like a snap on catalogue including the massive tool chest they have to keep everything in. But seeing as they are ment to be the dogs danglies how come Ive managed to snap a couple of bits in my time down there? Think bluetooth has got a good point...

also your trusty snap-on rep will argue black is white when it comes to replacing any parts!!
