OK Guys so im after a GSI which by research is going to cost me around about £1500 so i thought to stop me spending on my cesaro which is starting to leak oil and smoke I would have a little bit of fun in her .

My idea is to rookie banger her in next few weeks to give her a good send off.

I have raced before but wondered how many other people on here have done banger racing and what cars you have used

i have had a -


1.3 micra
1.6 austin montego estate
1.6 rover 216
1.4 rover 214
peugeot 205 (not sure what engine that was )
1.6 Mazda 323 F

and of course now my poor 1.6 Astra cesaro


ill post pics of the astra build maybe as an owners diary al be it will be a short one in the end
 
What a compleat was of time and money. Best stuff to use going on what people i know use are Rover 214s with the honda engine. Honda civics, Nissan almearas (sp)
 
Ive raced for 12 years mainly cavs and astras back in the day more civics and mondeos of recent times ationals though not rookies
 
hardly a waste of money when scrap is high and i havent spent anymore then £40 to buy any of those cars the pug cost me a bottle of whisky and the micra cost me £10 the mazda was £40 the rest was £20- £30

and it only costs £10 on the day to race its hardly a waste of money if you know what to do
 
Agreed mate i have never lost a penny on any car ive raced free hobby and its fun
 
I dunno, a hobby is a hobby.... I'd love to try something like that but I'm doing my full bike test instead :) would make me cry though if somebody smashed into my car lol (even though it does look like a banger!).
 
I don't know - it's a bit like giving it a Viking burial. All my cars but 2 have gone for scrap when I've finished with them. One was surprisingly accepted for part exchange and the other was an insurance write-off which someone wanted for about a month's use.
 
i say if its what you wanna do then go for it, sounds like a right laugh.

make sure you get some pics up and some of the carnage afterwards!
 
do you see many capris racing anymore,used to see loads long bonnet takes some beating inn lol
 
Give me your engine first! i want a C16SE, dont want to see an already rare engine destroyed :(

Is a good idea though, i tryed doing it once but coudnt get myself a decent car :(
 
i have done a few in my old nissan primera . took 7 sessions before she gave up lol . the sr20de engine is indistructable . solid car too

The engine will be fine !!! im doing rookie bangers which is basically nudge and spin where all your allowed to do is spin the other vehicle like they do in the police chases so engine wont be touched.
 
Sounds like a laugh, if its beyond economical repair send it off in style :)
 
Well when its dead, ill have the engine if you want to sell it, and its in alright nick :D
 
Seems a shame to banger race it simon as it looked quite tidy the times ive come round but if your getting a gsi then i doubt your really care lol!

Joycey yeah it was fairly tidy but it was becoming a bit of a money pit seeing as i want a gsi lol although it does mean the corbeau seats and frames and 4 point harnesses are up for sale .... whole lot cost me £500 and ive never used them since i fitted them except to take it for its MOT back in november
